HABIT CALENDAR PROTOTYPE

One day, I found myself on engineering Youtube and fell in love with Simone Giertz’ Every Day Calendar. I wanted it pretty badly but unfortunately, it was both out of my budget and out of stock. This led me to dream up an easy prototype I could build on my own to test if the investment would really be worth it.

The idea is that by constantly being reminded of a habit I want to create, the easier it should become to actually stick to it. It’s basically a representation of a real-life streak. Every day I do some habit (this month is yoga), I get to turn on a light!

With the help of my neighbor with a garage full of fun tools I could use, I designed a few layout options in Figma and budgeted the project. Here are a few of the decisions I made in the process:

  • Monthly view for lighter engineering load as well as lower cost

  • Different LED lights to build a visual hierarchy between months and days

  • Recycled wood for sustainability, cost, and weight
